Yes, it has been quite a while since I have written. Buying a house, moving and doing home improvement projects definitely keeps one busy. But I am excited to come back with a review of a great tequila I received for my birthday! I have always loved the Avion family of tequilas. The standard version of their reposado is hand’s down one of my favorite tequilas. So, I was excited to see this small batch version. Granted, its not Avion Reserva 44, but this is a top shelf tequila no doubt.
Now the label says it features notes of warm spices and dried fruits. I will say the initial tastes do have that spicy kick and warm flavor with a bit of syrupy sweetness, but those initial flavors don’t last very long. They are eventually taken over with flavors of oak and vanilla. This isn’t much of a surprise given these small batch editions are aged three times the normal resting period of a standard reposado.
Overall, I think the blend of sweetness with the deep flavors you get from the additional time resting in those oak barrels. Certainly this is more of a sipping tequila and would make a great gift for any tequila fan!
